There is so much information
today, we are in a period of information gridlock and simply cannot learn
and absorb everything we want to learn or need to learn fast enough.
Plus everything changes so quickly, especially in Computer and Information
Technology. Then there is the cost to consider as well. The
shelf life of a computer certification may be 18 months at best. There
are many kinds and types of computer certifications. There are vendor
specific certifications that deal exclusively with software programs such as
Oracle, Microsoft or Unix. There are vendor neutral programs that deal
with specific areas of computer technology, but offer general certifications
in the subject matter rather than specific software. Some of vendor
neutral programs include; Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW), Computer
Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) and Carnegie Mellon
Technology. There are hundreds and hundreds of different types of
computer certifications to choose from. Computer
certifications demonstrate to an employer that you have certain or specific
knowledge or competencies in computer technology. You can get
certification training from accredited colleges, private training companies,
or purchase certification training materials that you can self study.
There are also Internet based courses. Most people that work in the IT
industry get a few certifications from taking classes at private training
companies or colleges, but after a certain knowledge base has been acquired
most IT professionals buy self study materials and take on the certification
learning on their own. Ewell
